The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will host an informational webinar on June 27, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET to highlight its Grain Inspection Advisory Committee (GIAC) and encourage participation. The webinar will cover GIAC background, authorities, composition, nomination process, AMS’ policy on board diversity and more. AMS highly encourages stakeholders from all sectors within the grain industry to participate including, but not limited to, grain producers, processors, handlers, merchandisers, consumers, exporters, and scientists.
AMS policy is that the diversity of the boards, councils and committees it oversees should reflect the diversity of their industries in terms of the experience of members, methods of production and distribution, marketing strategies, and other distinguishing factors, including but not limited to individuals from historically underserved communities, that will bring different perspectives and ideas to the table. Ideas and input from participants with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences within these organizations to guide USDA is crucial to the long-term success of the industries AMS serves and helps maintain transparency and objectivity in USDA’s actions.
As AMS facilitates new nominations to the GIAC, we want to ensure its membership possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to represent the perspectives of minorities, women, and persons with disabilities and reflects the diversity of the grain industry.
