APHIS Announces Draft Modified Microorganisms Guide Available for Public Comment [open for comment through May 22, 2023]

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is sharing a draft guide detailing the information requirements and process for submitting permit applications for microorganisms developed using genetic engineering and inviting public comment for 60 days.  

The draft Guide for Submitting Permit Applications for Microorganisms Developed using Genetic Engineering Under 7 CFR part 340 is available on the APHIS Biotechnology Regulatory Services Guidance webpage, and members of the public may view and submit comments starting March 23, 2023, on the regulations.gov website. We will consider all comments received by May 22, 2023, prior to issuing the final version of the Guide.
