The Lummi Indian Business Council is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and partners through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) to provide financial and technical assistance for landowners and producers to improve salmon habitat in the Middle Fork Nooksack River Porter Reach in the northern Puget Sound area.
Financial assistance is being offered through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program; Land Management for Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23). Projects must be within the Middle Fork Nooksack River Porter Reach, near Welcome, Washington in Whatcom County. Practices eligible for funding include stream habitat improvement for fish. Partners will work with producers to place engineered logjams and plant riparian trees in this priority river reach to improve fish habitat.
Funding is limited, and applications will be subject to a ranking system. In order to be eligible, it is important that interested parties visit their local Farm Service Agency office as soon as possible to ensure that their farm records are established. Applicants wanting to be considered for FY23 funds must complete all application paperwork by May 19th, 2023.
For additional information please contact your local NRCS office or local project lead: Frank Corey, Resource Coordinator with Whatcom Conservation District at (360) 410-6864.
