The Wake County government, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) of North Carolina are beginning the planning process to develop a Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment for the rehabilitation needs of Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 5A (Site No. 5A), also known as Page Lake Dam. The location of Site No. 5A is immediately east of the intersection of US Highway 540 and Interstate-40, southwest of Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
This project is part of the Small Watershed Rehabilitation Amendments of 2000 (Section 313, PL 106-472). This legislation authorized the USDA-NRCS to work with local community leaders and eligible watershed sponsors to rehabilitate aging watershed dams built under Public Law 78-534, Public Law 83-566, and the Pilot Watershed programs. For Site No. 5A, the Wake County government is the local sponsor, working alongside N.C.-NRCS.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. There will be a brief overview about NRCS programs involved with the original development and construction of Site No. 5A, the roles of Wake County and NRCS with the operations and maintenance of Site No. 5A, the current NRCS programs that Wake County is using to pursue rehabilitation options, and the proposed rehabilitation planning study. The public will have an opportunity to provide either written or verbal comments during the meeting. Comments will be accepted through May 5, 2023.
